Daughters of Penelope District 5 Salute to Women Announce 2013 Honoree

It is with great pride and pleasure that the Daughters of Penelope of the Fifth District announce that Margaret A. Scopelianos has been chosen as the Daughters of Penelope, District 5 Salute to Women 2013 Honoree. A luncheon in her honor will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Crowʼs Nest Restaurant, Hackensack, NJ.

This award is given biannually to a woman who resides within the Daughters of Penelope District 5 domain, who is Greek or a Phil Hellene and who has achieved a high level within her profession, who would be a prominent role model and inspiration to all, women and men alike.

 

Margaret A. Scopelianos is the Executive and Managing Director of Public Sector Banking, Bank of America Merrill Lynch. She is an accomplished, professional woman who is recognized and respected among her peers in the financial community. Throughout her professional career she has achieved many accomplishments and recognitions as she progressed in the corporate world. Mrs. Scopelianos is also a previous recipient of the NJ State to the Policy Makers Award, Women of Influence in Finance Award and the Tribute to Women in Industry Award. She was born and raised in Canonsburg PA within the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church community. A longtime member of St George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway NJ, she resides in Whitehouse Station in Hunterdon County NJ with her husband, Dr Angelo Scopelianos, and sons.

Previous Salute to Women Honoreeʼs include 2001 Honorable (retired) Marina Corodemus, 2003 Debra K. Donnelly, Esq., DVS, 2005 Antonia Tripolitis, Ph.D, 2007 Cleopatra G. Notarides, M.A. Ed.S, L.M.F.T. (deceased), 2009 Dr. Vassilliki Karantza, Medical Oncologist, Cancer Institute of NJ and 2011 Marina Alexander, Musical & Artistic Director, Founder Arcadian Chorale.

 

The Daughters of Penelope District 5 has twelve chapters throughout New Jersey and Delaware; they are committed to perpetuating the mission statement of the AHEPA Family which is to promote the ancient Greek ideals of Hellenism, Education, Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility, and Family and Individual Excellence. Some of the organizations to benefit from the philanthropic donations of District 5 are Boys and Girls Club of America, Pompe Foundation and ALS. As well, the District offers educational scholarship awards and many chapters support local and national Shelters for Women and Children.

 

Founded in San Francisco in 1929, the Daughters of Penelope is the first womenʼs organization of its kind established in the United States. It is an affiliate organization of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). This premier international womenʼs association has districts and chapters throughout the United States of America, Canada, Greece and Cyprus, with its Headquartersʼ located in Washington, DC.
