On Friday, August 3, 2012, the Hellenic News of America’s Markos Papadatos spoke with Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas, who works in the 36th Assembly District in Astoria, New York. She is expected to be a part of the upcoming twenty-fifth anniversary of the Hellenic News of America (HNA). “I am honored to take part in this anniversary. Since 1987, the HNA has played such a vital role in preserving our common heritage and developing communication within our communities. Through the years, the efforts of HNA have helped document our vibrant history, celebrate the contributions of Hellenic Americans, and promote the common values that continue to tie us together. HNA supports our youth through the Hermes Young Professionals Initiative and the scholarship committee to advance the education of young Greek-Americans. ALBANY, N.Y. – For a second consecutive year, Assemblymember Aravella Simotas’ bill to protect workers’ rights to choose their own pharmacist was passed by the New York State Assembly. The bill permits workers injured on the job to fill their prescriptions at the pharmacy of their choosing.

Our main goal is to attract 2nd and 3rd generations of Greek Americans,” said Paul Kotrotsios, Hellenic News of America publisher and Hermes Expo International. He accomplished is goal at the Oct. 14th Twenty-fifth Anniversary Celebration of the Hellenic News of America (HNA) newspaper. The event was held at the Concordville Inn-Best Western Hotel & Conference Center in Concordville, Pennsylvania. A packed audience attended from states on the northeastern seaboard. I mingled with families whose grandparents and parents immigrated to America 100 years ago. Mr. Kotrotsios and his team of workers are exciting an interest in mainstream America.

Με το Βραβείο του Ερμή θα τιμηθεί το Σαββατοκύριακο που μας έρχεται η διακεκριμένη ομογενής Γερουσιαστής, Ολυμπία Σνόου (Olympia Snowe), το γένος Μπούχλη, που αποσύρεται από την πολιτική με το τέλος της τρέχουσας θητείας της, τον Ιανουάριο 2013, ύστερα από σημαντική πολυετή δράση στην νομοθετική εξουσία της χώρας. Η Γερουσιαστής Σνόου περιλαμβάνεται σε μια εννεαμελή ομάδα εξεχόντων Ελληνοαμερικανών οι οποίοι έχουν επιλεγεί για τα Βραβεία του Ερμή, που αποτελούν και μια από τις πιο επίζηλες αναγνωρίσεις επιτευγμάτων και προσφοράς ομογενών προς την κοινότητά μας και κατ επέκταση προς την Ελληνική και την Αμερικανική κοινωνία.
Η επικείμενη απονομή των Βραβείων του Ερμή, την Κυριακή 14 Οκτωβρίου στο Κόνκορντβιλ της Πολιτείας Πενσυλβανίας, έχει ιδιαίτερη σημασία γιατί φέτος ολοκληρώνονται 25 χρόνια από τότε που ιδρύθηκε ο φορέας ο οποίος τα θέσπισε και που δεν είναι άλλος από την ομογενειακή εφημερίδα Hellenic News of America. Είναι μια εφημερίδα που εκδίδεται στην περιοχή της Φιλαδέλφειας αλλά κυκλοφορεί σε πολλά μέρη της Ανατολικής Ακτής των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών και τα τελευταία χρόνια προσφέρεται επίσης μέσω του διαδικτύου.
