Kontos Foods Joins Forces with Habitat for Humanity in Paterson N.J. Project

Kontos pledges $25K through New Jersey’s Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program; on August 14, a team of Kontos employees will get to work on a Paterson house project

Paterson, N.J. – Aug 4, 2014 – Kontos Foods, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of traditional Greek and Mediterranean foods, today announced that the company has joined forces with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for low-income families in Paterson, N.J. Kontos Foods has pledged $25K through the state of New Jersey’s Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program (NRTC), which provides non-profits with funds to restore and rebuild neighborhoods in low-income areas of the state.

Additionally, on August 14, Kontos Foods will bring a team of employees and friends of the company for a day of work on the house project, and deliver a delicious lunch to the construction site for all participants.

“Paterson Habitat for Humanity plays a key role in community revitalization across this city, helping to build simple, decent and affordable houses for families who would not ordinarily be able to afford their own homes. Kontos is honored to be working with Paterson Habitat to help low-income families turn the dream of owning a house into a reality,” said Steve Kontos, vice president of Kontos Foods. “Our company has been operating in Paterson, N.J. for 26 years. Together with our employees and friends, we are thrilled to have an opportunity to give back to the neighborhood in which we work.”

The New Jersey NRTC offers business entities a 100% tax credit for funds provided to nonprofit entities carrying out comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plans. The funds can be applied to non-profit 501(c)3 organizations in municipalities, such as Paterson, that are eligible to receive aid. Under the program guidelines, Habitat for Humanity must use at least 60% of the tax credit funds for housing and economic development; the remaining funds may be used for supportive services and other activities that promote neighborhood revitalization.

“I know the Director and staff of Paterson Habitat for Humanity from when I ran a program years ago when I was with Unilever. I’m excited to rekindle that relationship in my role at here at Kontos,” said Warren Stoll, Marketing Director of Kontos Foods. “Taking advantage of the fact that we are a food company, on August 14, Kontos will provide the whole house team with lunch and refreshments, Kontos-style.”
