Review: Sweet Surrender Bake House

Thanks for reading Hellenic News of America

Sweet Surrender Bake House is a bakery and pastry shop that is located at 297 Wantagh Avenue in Levittown, New York, 11756.

It is co-owned by Helen Kyrillidis and Tanya Salagiannis. This marks their first year in business and they have already garnered three nominations for “Best of Long Island” awards and they caught the attention of Long Island radio station 98.3 FM, and people have been coming from all over New York to see what the great buzz is about, and rightfully so.

The ladies have mastered their new pastry creation, “the crannoli,” which was inspired by a contest from Long Island radio station 98.3 FM (WKJY), where Salagiannis was able to blow away the Long Island reporters with her new delight and subsequently win the competition.

Most striking about the “Crannoli” is that it feels like three desserts in one. It is reminiscent of a croissant meets a French Cruller deep-fried doughnut, coupled with the cream filling of a cannoli. Although it is priced at $4, it is worth every penny.

Their selection of doughnuts (including jelly ones) and eclairs at the Sweet Surrender Bake House is quite impressive and tasty.

For patrons of Greek desserts, they offer kourampiedes (white powdered cookies), as well as baklava and kataifi, among others. A visit to Sweet Surrender Bake House is worth the visit to Levittown alone.

Patron Effie Sotiriou remarked, “We love the cannoli cakes and their cheesecakes. My baby daughter, Eva, loves the rainbow sprinkled cookies and pretzel puffs. We come all the way from Flushing Queens, at least once a week.”

Another patron Susie Tasiopoulos concurred with Sotirious’ remarks. “I come here to satisfy my fiance’s sweet tooth. We absolutely love the cannolis, oreo cheesecakes and they make the best tri-color cookies,” Tasiopoulos said.

Overall, Sweet Surrender Bake House’s mission is “satisfaction in every bite,” and they accomplish that. Their shop garners 5 out of 5 stars. Its staff are extremely friendly and pleasant and attentive to their customers’ needs. With the exception of Mondays, it is open every day of the week, and all major credit cards are accepted.
