As part of the celebration of International Greek Language Day, the award ceremony for the Greek Language Proficiency Certificates from the Examination Center of Saint Catherine took place on Sunday, January 28th, at the Embassy of Greece in Washington DC. The event was opened with a greeting by the Ambassador of Greece to the US, Katerina Nassika. Ambassador Nassika congratulated the students, educators, and parents, and spoke about the importance of the Greek language for the preservation of cultural identity of the Greek Diaspora. Following the Ambassador’s remarks, Stavroula Skrepetou, Director of the Greek Language Examination Center of Saint Catherine, took the floor and presented the certificates to the students.
Students from the Greek Schools of Saint Catherine (Virginia), Saint George (Maryland), Saint Sophia (Washington D.C.), and the Hellenic School of Potomac (Maryland) participated. The students presented a particularly moving program, including recitations of poems and reading of texts. The event was also attended by embassy staff, teachers from the Greek Language Schools, and parents.
