A total of 17 migrants/refugees that are currently on an islet of Evros river, near the area of Pythio of Didymoticho, were located by police border protection officers with the assistance of a special rescue team and in the presence of Frontex officers were removed safely from the islet.
According to police, among the foreign nationals were 7 men, 2 women and 8 minors. All of them crossed the river with a boat driven by a trafficker who abandoned them on the islet.
Police said that all of them are in good health.
