AHEPA Chapter 26 of Greater Philadelphia: Empowering Education and Community Service
By Aphrodite Kotrotsios

The AHEPA Chapter 26 of Greater Philadelphia continues to uphold its mission of promoting Hellenism, education, philanthropy, and civic responsibility through meaningful actions that resonate within both the Greek American and wider communities. Recently, this commitment was celebrated in a special event at the historic Cathedral of Saint George in Philadelphia, where two scholarships of $1,500 each were awarded to outstanding students. The scholarships presented to John Contoudis and Konstantine Keisoglou, exemplify the chapter’s dedication to fostering education among the younger generation.

Reverend Anastasios Bourantas, Dean of the Cathedral, called upon Chapter President Paul Kotrotsios to introduce the scholarship committee and recipients. During his address to the congregation, Kotrotsios highlighted the broad impact AHEPA Chapter 26 has made at the local, regional, and international levels, underscoring the chapter’s continuous support for education and community initiatives. He emphasized that the scholarships represent only one facet of the chapter’s outreach, which extends far beyond financial aid for students.

In a significant new initiative, the chapter has committed to offering $1,000 each to local Greek churches over the next four years. This program, initially proposed by board member Mr. John Sarkioglou, aims to help churches organize special fundraising events, such as post-service lunches, that will generate additional funds for community support. Already embraced by two church communities, this initiative is set to strengthen ties within the Greek Orthodox congregations and create further opportunities for the younger generation.

Mr. John Kanakis, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, had the honor of presenting the scholarships to the students, whose families are long-standing members of AHEPA ( Anthony Beldecos grandson and Kostas Zidros grandson ).
The presence of Saint George parishioners and members of AHEPA Chapter 26 further underscored the collaborative spirit between the cathedral and the chapter. President Kotrotsios extended an invitation to all community members to become involved in AHEPA’s work, urging them to learn more about how they can contribute to this proud legacy.

Kotrotsios concluded by thanking Father Anastasios for his ongoing partnership with AHEPA and for providing a platform for the chapter to continue its work in support of education and community betterment. This event serves as yet another testament to the enduring power of AHEPA Chapter 26 of Greater Philadelphia, whose actions continue to uplift individuals and institutions alike.
