The American Hellenic Institute honors us, and the entire Greek Community in America and abroad, when they honor Theodore G. Spyropoulos with the AHI Public Service Award. Public Service in the Greek community and America is an ideal and contribution that Theodore G. Spyropoulos truly embodied through his service, leadership, and contributions. He helped form our foundations and solidify the Greek presence in America for the next generation and his efforts will never be forgotten.
Theodore G. Spyropoulos was the voice and champion of the Greek community. This posthumous award bestowed upon our great leader, visionary, and philanthropist, who was, to many of us, a mentor, a friend, and a brother, is of the highest honor. Theodore G. Spyropoulos was the nucleus of the Hellenic spirit in America, whose goals included unity, education, volunteerism, and above all progress in the 21st Century. Yes, he was a leader, and yes, he was a benefactor, but above all, he was a man who truly believed in the beauty, transcendence, and diachronic values ingrained within Hellenism and its principles. This is what inspired his good works and efforts which we can only aspire to follow.
For all of those who knew him, knew he fought tirelessly for what he believed in, and were inspired by his vision and ideals. In honor of Theodore G. Spyropoulos, we are reignited by our pride in his great legacy, and kneel on one knee for our champion. We avow and pledge our allegiance to the cause for Hellenism.
May his memory be eternal.
