Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a meeting with the Director of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, at the headquarters of the organization in Paris.
According to government sources, Mr. Mitsotakis and Ms. Azoulay discussed the initiative taken by Greece to protect cultural heritage from the effects of climate change. The same sources say that was also discussed the conversion of Hagia Sophia and the Monastery of Chora into a mosque by Turkey, a choice that is in complete contradiction with their character as monuments with a global cultural radiance. Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcomed the position taken by UNESCO on the issue, while he asked for the continuation of the efforts made by UNESCO to return in Greece the Sculptures of Parthenon.
