The 111th Police Precinct held its “National Night out” on Tuesday evening, August 6th. The event was held in Douglaston Shopping Center, located at the corner of Douglaston Parkway and Horace Harding Expressway, New York. Rain did not keep people away. Refreshments, games and local businesses participated. The communities of Northeastern Queens encompass the 111th precinct. What is the purpose of “National Night Out.” Cement strong bonds between the community and the police. Police lines were present. Northeastern Queens is stable, with real estate prices going up because the 111th precinct PROTECTS us.
The Greek American community of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is prosperous and stable. It is safe to go to church because of the diligence of the police. Andy Tsiolas, former president of the St. Nicholas Church parish council for two terms and a member of American Investments, attended.
Nick Tavantzis, President and Regional Lending Officer of First Central Savings Bank, along with Maria Betzios, Manager of the Bayside Branch on Bell Blvd, had asuccessful event despite the rainy evening. “We are a community bank that supports local small businesses, law enforcement, nonprofits, and engages in significant community outreach,” said VP Tavantzis. “In our 25 years, we have helped countless organizations. The 111th Precinct consistently supports the Bank and its services at all community events. In return, First Central Savings Bank honors the officers and their superiors by hosting fundraising events and testimonial dinners. Maria Betzios and her team provide excellent customer service—always and to all customers.”
Assemblyman Edward C. Braunstein
Assemblyman Edward C. Braunstein of Assembly District 26 attended the event with members of his office, including Irene Cheung, who is also my neighbor. “I appreciate the dedicated work of the 111th Police Precinct, which serves my assembly district. The rain did not stop the community from showing up. I commend President Jack Fried of the 111th Precinct Community Council for his over 30 years of service. President Fried works tirelessly all year round to enhance the quality of life for everyone.”
I have personally known Jack Fried since 1991. His fairness and commitment to freedom of speech are why I continue to attend the meetings. Originally established in the 1940s, Precinct Community Councils are forums that provide ongoing, direct communication between the police and the community.
