Crozer-Keystone Health System has planned several activities in March to raise awareness and provide education about the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer.
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths (behind lung cancer) in the United States. Between 80 to 90 percent of colorectal cancer patients are restored to normal health if their cancer is detected and treated in the earliest stages. This year, the health system has partnered with the American Cancer Society’s “80% by 2018” campaign, an effort to have 80 percent of adults age 50 and over screened for colorectal cancer by the end of the year.
Here is a full listing of programs taking place throughout March:
- March 8: An informational table with screening information will be available at the Giant Food Store, 2910 Springfield Road, Broomall, from 12 to 1 p.m.
- March 15: A free presentation, “The Preventable Cancer,” will be offered at Haverford Township Free Library, 1601 Darby Rd. in Havertown at 7 p.m. Speaker will be Patti Hollenback, R.N., Crozer-Keystone nurse navigator.
- March 22: A free and interactive presentation, “Colorectal Cancer: The Preventable Disease,” will be offered at Crozer-Keystone at Broomall at 6 p.m. Learn more about colorectal cancer, how it can be prevented, screening options and more from Monica Zeitz, M.D., Crozer-Keystone gastroenterologist; Hollenback; and Kate Kortum, American Cancer Society. A pizza dinner will be offered for attendees a5:30 p.m. Registration is required for this event.
