Konstadinos A. Plestis, MD, FACS, Nationally Recognized Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Joins Medical Staff of Abington – Jefferson Health
ABINGTON, PA (July 16, 2020)— Abington – Jefferson Health is pleased to welcome Konstadinos A. Plestis, MD, FACS, a nationally recognized leader in the field of cardiac and aortic surgery, to the medical staff of Abington Hospital – Jefferson Health, where he will serve as director of Jefferson Aorta Surgery.
Board-certified in general surgery, vascular surgery and thoracic surgery, Plestis brings more than 25 years of cardiothoracic surgical experience to his new role. The scope of his practice includes the care of patients with complex aortic disease, such as aortic aneurysms and aortic dissections, as well as aortic valve repairs and complex valvular and coronary disease.

Plestis earned his medical degree from Aristotelian University Medical School in Thessaloniki, Greece and completed a general surgery residency at Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York. He completed his vascular surgery residency at Baylor College in Houston. There he trained with Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Michael DeBakey, MD, renowned internationally for his many groundbreaking surgical innovations including aortic aneurysm repair and artificial hearts. Plestis also completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York.
Plestis has presented at numerous national and international meetings and his research on the surgical management of aortic and valvular diseases has been published extensively. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Society of Vascular Surgery, the Michael DeBakey International Surgical Society, among others.
In addition, Plestis has earned a number of awards including top doctor honors from Castle Connolly, Best Doctors in America, New York Super Doctors, U.S. News & World Report and the Consumers Research Council of America.
Plestis is married with two children and resides in Gladwyne, Montgomery County.
