Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis is visiting Brussels on Thursday, August 29, to participate in the informal meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, in which the President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, David McAllister, will also participate.
Topics on the agenda include, among others, the war in Ukraine, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, and the political situation in Venezuela. The crisis in the Middle East will also be discussed, in the presence of the UN Coordinator for humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, with whom Gerapetritis will also have a personal meeting.
Gerapetritis will participate in a working lunch of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, to which Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, has been invited. On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting and before the working lunch, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will hold a bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart.
According to diplomatic sources, the subject of the meeting will be, among other things, Euro-Turkish relations, the Cyprus issue and Greek-Turkish relations in view of the upcoming meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York between the Prime Minister, Mitsotakis, and the Turkish President.
The same sources pointed out that it is of particular importance that after 5 years a Turkish Foreign Minister will participate in the lunch of the informal meeting.
“And this is because this gives us the opportunity to raise, before the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, the issues that concern us,” the same diplomatic sources said.
