The government plans to auction off railroad projects worth 3.3 billion euros throughout Greece, Infrastructure & Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis revealed on Wednesday.
Speaking at the Athens ESG & Climate Crisis Summit by ‘Kathimerini’ newspaper at the Stavros Niarchos Foundaiton Cultural Center, Karamanlis said it would be “the largest package of railroad works to ever happen in Greece.”
The project is key in allowing Greece to play a role in the logistics sector, he said, and completely agrees with issues of climate change. “Greece will enter a process in which we will finally link ports with the railroad, logistics center, and Thriassio 1 and Thriassio 2,” the freight hubs west of Athens, Karamanlis said.
