Greek exports jumped 34.6 pct in August, but a 38.3 pct rise in imports led to a 43.3 pct increase in the country’s trade deficit, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday.
More specifically, the value of imports-arrivals totaled 4.9942 billion euros in August, from 3.611 billion in the same month of 2020, for an increase of 38.3 pct (excluding oil products, imports grew 27.1 pct, while excluding oil products and ships imports rose 27.5 pct).

The value of exports-deliveries totaled 2.795 billion euros in August, up 34.6 pct from the same month last year (excluding oil products exports rose 23.4 pct while excluding oil products and ships exports rose 23.6 pct).

The country’s trade deficit was 2.199 billion euros in August, up 43.3 pct from August 2020 (excluding oil products the trade deficit rose 31.5 pct while excluding oil products and ships the trade deficit rose 32.2 pct).

In the eight-month period from January to August, imports totaled 39.543 billion euros, up 23.8 pct from 2020 (excluding oil products, the deficit was up 18.2 pct while excluding oil products and ships the deficit rose 18.4 pct). The value of exports totaled 24.928 billion in the eight-month period, up 25.8 pct from 2020 (excluding oil products, exports rose 18.7 pct while excluding oil products and ships exports rose 18.7 pct). The trade deficit was 14.615 billion euros in the January-August period, up 20.4 pct from 2020 (excluding oil product the deficit rose 17.5 pct while excluding oil products and ships the deficit rose 18.1 pct).
