The municipalities of Greece have collected over 1.5 tonnes of humanitarian aid that has been sent to the quake-stricken in Syria and Türkiye.

So far, 35 large trucks carrying basic necessities, such as as bed sheets, blankets and tents, have been sent to Adana and Istanbul, in cooperation with the Turkish side.
This huge “chain of love” will end with the transfer of the final quantities of humanitarian aid from all over Greece to Syria, via Beirut.

This panhellenic effort organised by the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) in cooperation with the regional municipalities union and all Greek municipalities is expected to conclude in the following days. A part of the aid collected, specifically clothing, that was not sent to Türkiye was sent to Ukraine.

The entire effort is taking place with the cooperation of the Greek Foreign Ministry and the Turkish Consulates in Athens and Komotini.

“In times of difficulty, our peoples should be united and show solidarity. This has happened in the past and is also happening now and I hope it will not be needed in the future. Local administration has proved that it can become a bridge of friendship between the two countries,” KEDE president and mayor of Trikala Dimitris Papastergiou underlined.
