Hudson Odysseus AHEPA Chapter 545 of Middletown, NY has undertaken a number of events to support the families which have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and to celebrate the front-line responders who have been risking their own lives and health to protect the well-being of our community.
This past week our chapter raised two thousand dollars to support a member of the Hellenic community, who had been hospitalized for over a month recovering from a severe attack of COVID-19 and a fellow AHEPAN brother recovering from a major illness which has significantly reduced his income. Each person was given a check for one thousand dollars.
The second event was the organizing of a “gyros for heroes” food donation to the Orange Regional Medical Center nurses and healthcare workers. Five hundred gyros platters were made under the sponsorship of the Hudson Odysseus chapter. AHEPA brother Gus Lambrou was the event organizer. Assisting in the effort was Irma Lambrou, Catherine Blumrath and Tonjia and Tony Vikos. The ORMC staff were extremely grateful for the gift of the traditional Greek delicacy.
Lastly, a food and household item drive for local needy families is being organized with a target donation date of Memorial Day weekend. Where there is a need and challenge to the wellbeing of our community the generosity of our AHEPA chapter members are ready, in the best tradition of the brotherhood, to do our part.
