“The city of Athens has made a strong comeback in tourism with hard work in a very difficult year, with a war in the heart of Europe, energy crisis and inflation,” Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias underlined in an interview on Wednesday with Antenna TV, saying that the revenues from tourism will exceed the 18.2 billion euros of 2019.

Kikilias also met and talked with shop owners and employees in the historic centre of Athens, who expressed their satisfaction with the major increase in turnover as a result of strong tourist flows, as well as their optimism that the tourism season will continue until the end of 2022.

Finally, he announced a series of trips before the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), starting from Germany, followed by Austria, France, Sweden and the UK, with the aim of “attracting northern Europeans in order to extend the tourism season and have more revenues while they spend a mild Mediterranean winter, which is less expensive and more beautiful, in Greece”.
