Alternate Minister for Migration Policy Yiannis Mouzalas met with American actress and activist Susan Sarandon in the Registration and Identification Center for Refugees in Moria, Lesvos on Wednesday, with whom he discussed Greece’s immense efforts to tackle the humanitarian crisis.
Mouzalas explained to Sarandon the registration procedure while he also hailed the solidarity shown by locals and volunteers. He also spoke of the practices employed by Turkish traffickers “who send people to their deaths”.
On her side, the American actress expressed her shock for the images she is seeing and the stories she has heard from the people who arrive on Greek shores. She also told the minister she will take to the international community the plight of these people, as well as Greece’s efforts to tackle the difficult situation.
Earlier, Sarandon continued her visit to shores where refugees arrive and also went to Kara Tepe refugee camp.
Mouzalas will later meet with representatives of NGOs operating on the island, who he will brief on the creation of the NGO registry set up by the ministry which aims to improve coordination among groups.
