“Mykonos, despite the current crisis it is going through today, remains a stable and unchanging value for tourism. A popular and attractive global tourist destination, with millions of loyal friends, which monitors developments and strives to constantly improve” stated the mayor of Mykonos Christos Veronis to Athens-Macedonian News Agency.
Veronis underlined that with reference year 2019, Mykonos shows a decrease mainly in international air arrivals. In fact, this fact, combined with the continuous increase in the supply of both hotel and short-term rental beds, results in a decrease in the occupancy of all tourist accommodations and affects other sectors of the tourism economy.
The biggest losses are to be found in the American market and in that of the Far East and the economically strong Arab countries in Mykonos this year, compensation is the significant increase in cruise visitors, a sector which shows impressive dynamic this year and even in the low season period.
