The upgrade of the school, the vocational education and the skills in the digital age were discussed during an online event organized by the Institute of Democracy, Konstantinos Karamanlis. The leadership of the Ministry of Education and Religions presented the reform project, which was accelerated by the needs of the pandemic.
At least 472,780 pupils and students have already purchased technological equipment through the Voucher-Digital Care program. In the last two years, four thousand laptops or tablets have been delivered to schools, while the supply for 90 thousand new devices has been launched. Also, the internet has been upgraded to seven thousand schools and is expanding throughout the country through the Coupling 2 program, said Deputy Minister of Education Zetta Makri.
However, the digital reform continues and gradually electronic registrations are implemented at all levels, while in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Government, significant digital innovations were introduced for the student structures and the substitute teachers with the aim of timely staffing of the school units.
“We have made 16,200 permanent appointments in general education and special education,” said Deputy Minister of Education and Religions Zetta Makri. “We place special emphasis on the autonomy of the schools, the support of the educational community, the evaluation of the teachers and we respond in practice to the demand of the society for the upgrading of the education”, he added.
The president of the Institute of Educational Policy, Giannis Antoniou, participated in the online event, emphasizing that 123 programs of the Institute are currently “running”, from kindergarten to high school. The Secretary General of Education, Training, Lifelong Learning and Youth, George Voutsinos and the President of ONNED, Pavlos Marinakis also participated in the discussion.
