The Hellenic Parliament’s Committee on Institutions and Transparency is to have a closed-door session on Friday at 14:00 to discuss a complaint filed by opposition PASOK-Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis with the Supreme Court Prosecutor, alleging an attempt to tap his mobile phone using illegal surveillance spyware.

The Committee has summoned the head of the Greek Intelligence Service and the president of the independent authority for ensuring communications privacy to give testimony, while the session will also be attended by Minister of State Giorgos Gerapetritis and Digital Governance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis.

Both main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance and the PASOK-KINAL party demanded that the committee be immediately convened and question the two official, calling the attemp a “major ethical and political issue.” The proposal was also backed by the other opposition parties.

According to government sources, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis earlier contacted Parliament President Kostas Tasoulas and asked that the Committee meet on this issue the soonest possible.
