Rescue operation of 381 foreign nationals on board a Turkish-flagged vessel successfully concluded

A search and rescue operation, one of the larger ones in the eastern Mediterranean, has been successfully concluded on Sunday.

According to the Shipping Ministry, a Turkish-flagged freighter carrying 381 migrants of different nationalities that was sailing in international waters near Crete has anchored on Sunday morning near the port of Kos island.

Later, the 381 individuals were transferred to the port of Kos by an opens seas vessel where they safely disembarked.

A fifty-year old foreign national among the 381 passengers was collected by a coast guard rescue vessel and was transferred to the island of Karpathos where she was admitted to Karpathos hospital for first aid and later was discharged from hospital and is in the local port authority’s custody.
