Fans of the traditional Greek cuisine will enjoy such specialities as chicken souvlaki, chicken doner (which is roasted vertically), loukaniko (Greek version of sausage), seftelia (Cyrian sausage) and falafels. Their soups include avgolemono (traditional Greek soup with chicken broth, chicken breast, egg, lemon sauce and orzo), as well as “faki,” Greek lentil soup.
Avli’s sald is comprised of Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, grilled zucchini, grilled red peppers, grilled red onions and feta cheese tossed with Balsamic vinaigrette.
Their “Avli Chicken” was tender and tasty. All of their platters are served with Greek salad, or soup and a choice of rice, lemon potatoes or fries, in addition to tzatziki and pita bread.
Avli’s desserts include baklava, Greek yogurt (“Yiaourti”) and galaktobouriko, which is custard cream topped in phyllo with honey.
The Verdict
Overall, Avli Tavern was a pleasant Greek restaurant in the heart of Bell Boulevard. It also offers a catering menu for special occasions. It is recommended to visit and dine whenever a patron is on Bell Boulevard. Avli garners 4 out of 5 stars.
