“The East Med Gas Forum (EMFG) is a forum that gives an opportunity to all the countries that are on the shores of the Mediterranean and face common problems, which have to do with climate change but also with sufficiency of energy as regards the supply of natural gas, to discuss and find ways to make our societies more resilient, more sustainable, more competitive against the challenges of the climate crisis,” Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas said at the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the EMFG, which began on Thursday in Cairo with Greece participating.

He said that Greece will further boost its cooperation with Egypt through the signature on Thursday of a bilateral memorandum exploring the possibility of building a natural gas pipeline going directly from Egypt to Greece.

Skrekas explained that, together with his Egyptian Petroleum & Mineral Resources Minister Tarek El-Molla, they will sign a memorandum of cooperation with Egypt that will include the construction of a Greece-Egypt natural gas pipeline, the possible transportation of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) from Egypt to Greece, as well as on the exploration and development of natural gas fields.

He noted that this will “further strengthen the strategic relationship between Greece and Egypt that is…already yielding results.”

According to Skrekas, this built on the meetings between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
