Temple Heart and Vascular Institute Brings Integrated Cardiovascular Care to the Region

Thanks for reading Hellenic News of America

(Philadelphia, PA) – Temple Health has established the Temple Heart and Vascular Institute (THVI) –a patient-focused home to engage patients and their physicians in the lifetime management of heart and vascular disease.

“The Institute will break down the traditional barriers that have prevented an integrated approach to maintaining and improving the cardiovascular health of the patients we serve,” says Verdi DiSesa, MD, MBA, Chief Operating Officer for Temple University Health System, Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs at Temple University School of Medicine, and Professor of Surgery at Temple University School of Medicine. “By eliminating the artificial boundaries between cardiologists and surgeons, doctors and nurses, inpatient and outpatient services, doctors’ offices and the hospital, and others, the Institute will help to define a new paradigm in cardiovascular care,” he adds.

The Institute will be led by Daniel Edmundowicz, MD, Chief of Cardiology (Medical Director), T. Sloane Guy, MD, Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery & Chief of Robotic Surgery (Surgical Director), and Eric Choi, MD, Chief of Vascular Surgery (Surgical Director).

Patients will benefit from the translational research and most advanced treatments and technologies that are the hallmark of cardiovascular care in the THVI. These include totally robotic mitral-valve repair, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), advanced percutaneous therapies for coronary artery disease and structural heart disease, endovascular aortic and peripheral vascular therapies, electrophysiology and device therapies including ablation of atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias, advanced cardiac imaging, advanced therapies for pulmonary arterial hypertension and right heart failure, mechanical circulatory-support devices, heart transplantation, and advanced stem-cell treatment for damaged heart muscle.

“The development and continued growth of the Temple Heart and Vascular Institute will enhance and hasten Temple Health’s recognition as a regional and national leader in providing evidence-based quality cardiovascular care. It will also showcase our leadership in innovative and translational cardiovascular research and medical education,” says Dr. DiSesa.
