“The central goal of our struggle for the protection of the environment is to eliminate the burning of fossil fuels,” Minister of Environment and Energy, Pantelis Kapros, said on Monday on the occasion of World Environment Day.
In his statement, the minister pointed out: “The World Environment Day reminds us of the humanity’s highest goal to protect the environment and the ecosystems on our planet. Preventing the risk of climate change must be the first concern of all countries. Global warming, rising sea levels, drought and extreme weather conditions are already underway mainly because of the burning of oil, coal, lignite and natural gas.”
“The effort to prevent the phenomenon of climate change is globally better than before, but much still needs to be done, such as the strategy promoted by the European Union. Zero burning of fossil fuels is the central goal. By mitigating the climate threat, all environmental problems are weakening and air quality, forests, water, biodiversity and ecosystems benefit. However, more intensive and autonomous actions are required.”
