“We are experiencing an unbelievable situation, our democracy has been fractured and this is dangerous,” stated main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesperson Popi Tsapanidou in an interview late Wednesday with Kontra Channel.
She noted that several hours had passed since SYRIZA-PA leader Alexis Tsipras tabled motion of censure against the government and there was still no answer from the government regarding the phone tappings, the reasons why they were done, who knew about it, who was responsible and who was not and what role was played by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in this story.
“They are doing whatever they can to cover up the issue. The government will not give any answers but, on our part, we will continue to press them. The people will also press them in the future and this will be reflected in the ballot box results,” she added.
Concluding, Tsapanidou said that such things would be intolerable in any democratic country, where the government would have already resigned.
