Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras criticised the government for lacking an energy strategy, for violently phasing out lignite and privatising the Public Power Corporation (PPC), as well as its handling of high prices, in a speech at the 7th Delphi Economic Forum.
“The big picture is that we are not in a time of normality and we have to decide how exactly we want the PPC to operate. With the public and common good as our guideline, or an increase of the profits and dividends of the private investors,” Tsipras said, adding that
“in a period of crisis the top priority should be the common good and reducing the huge bills consumers have to pay”.
Finally, Tsipras said that if the price hikes in food, fuel and other goods continued much longer, there were concerns that this will trigger conditions of social crisis.
