“It is imperative for every country to take immediate initiatives, so that together, as a united Europe, we can ensure the fundamental human right of housing for all those that need it,” Labour and Social Affairs Deputy Minister Domna Michailidou said to the Council of Ministers of the European Union on housing and construction, which took place in Nice, France on Monday and Tuesday.

On the occasion of her participation in the Council of Ministers, Michailidou held a bilateral meeting on Monday, March 6, with Emmanuelle Wargon, Minister Delegate for Housing attached to the Minister for the Ecological Transition.

During the meeting, according to a statement from the Labour and Social Affairs Ministry, they discussed the forthcoming European initiatives and the policies of both countries in terms of providing affordable and safe housing, as well as the protection of Ukrainian refugees.

“Especially, for the worrying situation prevailing in Ukraine, in terms of the violation of fundamental rights of children, Michailidou had already made an extensive report during her speech at the Council of Ministers of the European Union, on the implementation of the Child Guarantee, which took place on March 4 in the French capital,” an announcement said.

“It is an immediate priority for all of us to prepare and exchange national action plans, in which each member-state will record the availability to meet the needs for the reception and care of children from Ukraine. Each country must map the areas and structures where it can directly accommodate children. At the same time, their long-term integration into the school environment must be considered, in order to protect the right of every child to education.”

Finally, during her visit to Paris, Michailidou had a working meeting with the French Deputy Minister of Children and Family, Adrien Taquet, with whom they exchanged practices on the common goals of both countries to strengthen pre-school education and deinstitutionalisation of children living in closed structures.
