If SYRIZA had not signed the Prespes Agreement, the Western Balkans would be in an entirely different state today, party spokesman Nassos Iliopoulos said on Saturday, calling out Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for hypocrisy.
Iliopoulos charged Mitsotakis – who called for the accession of all Western Balkan countries to the European Union by 2033 in a concluding address at the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) summit in Thessaloniki on Friday – with behaving “at the height of hypocrisy.”
As the main opposition spokesman underlined, “He should wonder, in the midst of his grand pronouncements, what state the Western Balkans would be in today if the Prespes Agreement had not been signed in 2018, opening the way for their European prospect that had been kept on ice. The Prespes Agreement reaffirmed Greece as a leading diplomatic power in the region, disrupting other powers that were developing strongly at our northern borders.”
