Chorale invites new members to join in three

“open rehearsals” scheduled for September

Thanks for reading Hellenic News of America

The Metropolitan Greek Chorale invites everyone with a genuine love for singing to join on a trial basis at three open rehearsals in September. The rehearsals are scheduled at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 91st and West End Avenue on Manhattan’s West Side, for three consecutive Sunday afternoons, 3 – 6 pm:

The Chorale’s energetic and accomplished music director Marina Alexander is a devoted educator and will help new members find the appropriate section during the rehearsal.

Now beginning its 51st year of performing traditional and innovative Greek music and other serious choral works, the Chorale is preparing for its Annual Christmas Concert, which will be performed in the magnificent sanctuary on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 4 pm. The theme for this year’s concert will be “Angels We Have Heard on High” and will feature the New York premiere of Armenian-American composer Alan Hovhaness’ cantata “Glory to God”.  It was commissioned and performed in Texas in 1954.

The program will feature a number of choral works inspired by Angels including several Cherubic Hymns from the Orthodox repertory and selections from Handel’sMessiah.

Not content on “resting on its laurels” after a memorable fiftieth anniversary concert last spring, the Chorale will sponsor two concerts of sacred music at Annunciation church this musical year.

While we can all enjoy listening to virtuoso performers, the chorale is an ensemble where everyone with an ear for music can participate. Give us a try!
