The Panhellenic Federation of Journalists’ Unions (POESY) with the participation of representatives from the media sector, the academic community, but also the state, attended the 18th Samothrace Journalism Conference, a conference that is an institution for the industry.

As the president of POESY, Sotiris Triantafyllou, emphasized in his welcoming speech: “Technological development, the shocking changes and challenges in journalism, in labour relations and the content of the journalist’s work – which has changed rapidly – are the topics of the two-day conference.”

“The issues we analyze come at a time of rapid changes, great challenges and great interest. Artificial Intelligence is a cutting edge topic and a great challenge for journalism.” In fact, he announced that the first presentation of the Code of Ethics for the use of Artificial Intelligence in the Media will take place in Samothrace.

“The new communication landscape created by the rapid technological development in combination with a number of other factors, puts critical issues on the table that have to do with the credibility of the Media, the press freedom, manipulation, polyphony, and democracy itself,” Triantafillou said and stressed the need to investigate issues related to journalistic coverage and communication management of crises, as well as issues of culture, tourism and how the media can highlight areas like Samothrace.”

In addition, he referred both to the use of artificial intelligence by the media, as well as to the issues concerning the role of journalists in the midst of rapid technological developments and benefiting from a multi-year and multi-level crisis.
On his part, government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis pointed out that “the safety of journalists, shielding and defending their work are dominant goals for the government and personally for the prime minister. In this journey we need the ideas, suggestions and contribution of all of you to implement the next commitments together. To prove that the relationship of trust, state and journalists can withstand time and become even stronger.”
