Dear Friends of the NYC Greek Film Festival:
As the Chairman of the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce, we are writing to ask you to consider supporting the eleventh annual NYC Greek Film Festival scheduled to be held in September 28 to October 15 in various venues in Manhattan, Astoria and Manhasset. We believe that prominent business people such as you are vital to the very viability of this important event for our community.
Since we started 10 years ago, the festival has screened over 150 Greek feature films and documentaries to more than 70,000 people in New York City. The event grows substantially each year due to the quality of the film entries and the publicity it receives. Last year’s event marked the tenth anniversary of our festival, screening 15 feature films, 7 documentaries and 8 shorts. Beginning with a sold-out opening night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the festival went on to sell out an additional 16 shows and over 6,500 people attended. We expect this year’s event to continue on the same momentum.
The NYC Greek Film Festival would not be possible without the generosity and commitment of friends and supporters like you from our community. Your contribution will not only bring quality films to a large New York audience but also cover screening fees that support the Greek film industry. More importantly, it allows Greek filmmakers the opportunity to show their work at the best venues in the media capital of the world, and provide a link between Greece and New Yorkers who welcome the opportunity to experience the very fine work of Greek filmmakers.
You can help in one of two ways. You can choose to make a donation (see donation level document enclosed) or simply purchase greeting space in the printed program that is distributed free of charge at all screenings (ad contract enclosed).
At a time when Greece has been the target of so much negative news coverage, it is important to show that all in the country is not dysfunctional and that there is an artistic community that is working on a world-class level.
