The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in August 2024 amounted to 9.5% compared to the upwards revised 11.4% in August 2023 and to 9.9% in July 2024, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announced.

The number of employed persons amounted to 4,252,488 persons, increased by 103,054 persons as compared with August 2023 (2.5%) and by 30,064 persons compared with July 2024 (0.7%).

The number of unemployed persons amounted to 444,402, decreased by 90,496 persons as compared with August 2023 (-16.9%) and by 17,551 persons compared with July 2024 (-3.8%).

The number of persons outside the labour force, i.e., persons under the age of 75, that neither work nor look for a job, amounted to 3,076,851, decreased by 41,278 persons as compared with August 2023 (-1.3%) and by 14,749 persons compared with July 2024 (-0.5%).

For women, the unemployment rate stood at 11.6% from 15.1% in August last year and for men at 7.7% from 8.6%.
