There will be no problems as regards the adequacy of the food supply in Greece as a result of the war in Ukraine, Rural Development and Food Minister Giorgos Georgantas said in a press conference on Wednesday regarding training and education in the agricultural sector.
Georgantas said that the ministry is cooperating with all importers to expand the markets used and cover the 250,000 tonnes of cereals imported from Russia and Ukraine.
He noted that the Greek balance of trade in agricultural products has been in surplus for the past two years, adding that this must continue for both exports and food supply adequacy.
Georgantas said a request will be sent to the European Commission to provide EU subsidies for cultivating corn and wheat, adding that the EU toolbox for the farming sector will be announced after March 23.
