AHEPA Westchester Chapter No. 51, celebrated its 90th anniversary at X20 on the Hudson, on November 16, 2014, where they honored a fellow Ahepan, Mayor Mike Spano. From left are Secretary, James Florakis, Mayor Mike Spano, Chapter President John Parlitsis,Vice Presiident, Elias Tsekerides and Treasurer, Nick Sakalis The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association ( AHEPA ) held it’s 90th Anniversary Lunchen at Xavier’s X20 on the Hudson where the order of AHEPA Chapter 51 presented Mayor Mike Spano with an award in recognition of his service and continued support to AHEPA Mike Spano is a brother of AHEPA Chapter 51 for over 15 years. Chapter 51 celebrated 90 years of fulfilling its mission, which is to promote Hellenism, Education, Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility and Family and Individual Excellence. AHEPA was founded in 1922 as a fraternal-based organization that aimed to help the Greek immigrant assimilate into American society and combat the evils of bigotry and discrimination experienced by Americans at that time. Today, AHEPA is at the forefront of charitable giving, from natural disaster relief, to raising funds for illnesses, to making significant contributions to our local neighborhoods. It is committed to education and awards scholarships. Chapter 51 has given over $80,000 dollars in scholarship awards to worthy high school students.
