This past weekend marked New York City’s Greek Independence Day celebration, hosted by the Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Greater New York. The festivities began on Friday with the 29th annual flag raising ceremony in Bowling Green Park, which featured performances by many local school children and the Evzones, the Presidential Guard of the Hellenic Republic.

Friday Evening, Supreme President Tsivicos, Supreme Counselor Frangos, Supreme Governor Rozanitis, as well as BOT Vice Chairman George G. Horiates PSP and DOP Grand President Marianthi Treppiedi attended the Federation’s pre-parade gala held at the New York Hilton Midtown. Supreme President Tsivicos spoke on behalf of the AHEPA Family and congratulated the Federation on what was already shaping up to be an excellent event. The AHEPA Family leadership in attendance had the opportunity to meet and speak with Greek Americans and Hellenes from all over, including many dignitaries such as Greek Minister of Defense Nikos Dendias.

The Supreme President was also afforded the opportunity to speak the following day preceding the commencement of the Greek Independence Day Parade. He congratulated the Federation’s General Chairman of the 2024 Parade, Philip Christopher, as well as Parade Grand Marshal, George Karlaftis. Tsivicos, BOT Chairman Nicholas A. Karacostas, PSP, and Grand President Treppiedi later helped lead the parade as honorary Marshals. Many members of the District 6 AHEPA Family came out in full force to represent and to show off their Greek Pride!

The Maids of Athena and Sons of Pericles Grand and Supreme Lodges were represented at the parade by District 6 natives Markella Roros (MOA Grand Governor) and George Kalyvas (SOP Supreme Governor). They were joined by MOA PGP Maria Ana Pantelous and SOP Supreme Governor George Antonellis as well as MOA and SOP from the entire Empire District.
