Washington, D.C. – Bilirakis Applauds Passage of two House Resolutions regarding concern over anti-Israel and anti-Semitic incitement within the Palestinian Authority and the safety and security of Jewish communities throughout Europe.
This week, the United States House of Representatives passed two resolutions, H.R. 293, Expressing concern over anti-Israel and anti-Semitic incitement within the Palestinian Authority, and H.R. 354, Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives regarding the safety and security of Jewish communities in Europe. Representative Gus Bilirakis, founder and Co-Chair of the Congressional Hellenic Israel Alliance(CHIA) and a member of the Bipartisan Taskforce for Combatting Anti-Semitism released the following statement:
“As we witness the tragic surge of global anti-Semitism that has been brewing, I am proud that two resolutions which I have cosponsored passed the House of Representatives. These measures call on the U.S government to positively engage foreign governments and inter-governmental bodies to combat this horrific trend.
H.R. 293 urges Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and his colleagues to halt incitement and calls upon the U.S. Department of State to monitor and publish information regarding anti-Israel and anti-Semitic sentiment from the Palestinian Authority. With the almost daily reports of civilian stabbings throughout Israel, we must stand strong with Israel and call for the end of these senseless attacks.
Stemming from the rise of organized anti-Semitic attacks throughout Europe, H.R. 354 lists specific ways that the U.S. government can collaborate with European governments and inter-governmental bodies, including efforts to formally recognize and partner with Jewish community groups focused on preparedness, mitigation, and response related to anti-Semitic attacks and effectively train law enforcement personnel to respond to anti-Semitic violence.”
