DREXEL HILL, PA – Delaware County Memorial Hospital, a member of the Crozer-Keystone Health System, is proud to announce a partnership with the board-certified physicians of Relievus Pain Management Centers. DCMH and Relievus are working together to offer our community a specialized pain management program that helps patients find relief and enables them to return to the activities of daily living.

Chronic pain can severely affect your ability to work, interact with others, and perform even the simplest activities. Studies have shown that having pain under control can increase your ability to make commitments, better your relationships, improve overall health, and gain a more positive outlook on life.

The most common pain conditions include back and neck injury caused by arthritis, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, disc herniation, sprains and strains, and more; head injury; chronic pain caused by conditions such as bursitis, fibromyalgia, cancer, and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome; and neurological disorders such as neuropathy and Central Pain Syndrome.

DCMH’s Comprehensive Pain Management Program is led by board-certified pain management specialist Uplekh Purewal, M.D. Dr. Purewal completed his anesthesiology residency at Tufts University in Boston, and fellowships in Interventional Pain Management and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at University of Pennsylvania. “Many people we treat have already been seen by multiple specialists; they’ve tried different medications. By the time they find us they are frustrated. We assure them that we are here to fix the problem,” Dr. Purewal says. “Although about 75 percent of our patients are dealing with chronic pain, many are also dealing with acute pain from motor vehicle accidents, work-related injuries and other events. We are thrilled to collaborate with Crozer-Keystone Health System and introduce our services to this wonderful community.”

Dr. Purewal stresses that many therapies are available and that surgery is usually reserved as a last-resort option. In his practice at DCMH, he offers procedures that include injections, nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation, radiofrequency ablation, and even cognitive therapy. Most treatments are done under X-ray guidance, and can be done one time only or as part of a longer plan. The practice also provides ongoing medication management. “We have specialty medications and therapies that are truly the best standard of care. Some people have been in pain for 30 years and they come to our office and are amazed by the difference,” Dr. Purewal says.

Crozer-Keystone also offers comprehensive pain management services at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland and Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake in Glen Mills. Dr. Purewal’s office is located in Suite 407 of the Medical Office Building at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill.
