National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias concluded his visit to Larissa, central Greece, on Tuesday over the armed forces’ assistance in the flooded areas in Greece following a storm.
Dendias paid a visit to the coordination center of operations, where he attended a meeting with officials of the government, the region of Thessaly, and related authorities. He as accompanied by Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros.
He then paid a visit to the 1st Army Corps (European Union Operation Headquarters) in Larissa and to the Bougas military camp, where one of the hazardous material units has been dispatched, and paid a visit to the Georgoulas marines camp in Volos and the disinfection station for vehicles and personnel there.
The armed forces and its special teams have been called in to help evacuate people, search for missing persons in flooded areas, and help prevent the spread of disease from the debris and dead animals in the storm waters.
