Deputy Foreign Minister George Kotsiras during his visit to Alexandria and Cairo, expressed the Greek government’s support for the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Greek community in Egypt. Kotsiras participated in celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the election of Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa Theodore II.
Patriarch Theodore II honored Kotsiras with a distinguished award from the Patriarchate. Additionally, he attended a cultural evening featuring soprano Sonia Theodoridou, organized by the Greek Embassy in Egypt in collaboration with the Greek community of Alexandria.
While in Egypt, Kotsiras also met with representatives of the Greek communities in Alexandria and Cairo to discuss the issues concerning the Greek diaspora. In Alexandria, he visited the new Library of Alexandria and the Cavafy Museum.
In Cairo, Kotsiras held a meeting with Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister Nabil Habashi, where they confirmed the excellent level of Greek-Egyptian relations, emphasizing further collaboration on diaspora issues at both bilateral and trilateral levels with Cyprus.
