Documentary Review: “Including Samuel” by Dan Habib
by Markos Papadatos
“Including Samuel,” filmed by photojournalist Dan Habib, is one of the most powerful documentaries on inclusion one can ever see. It tells the story of a young boy named Samuel (who was born with cerebral palsy) and was able to be integrated into the educational system thanks to the supporting of his loving parents, older brother (Isaiah), friends and teachers.
Although life is not always easy for Samuel, especially since a little cold can have him in the hospital for weeks, the child has a great deal of inner strength and he tries to be as independent as possible and he is good at hitting the baseball bat.
It is such a heartfelt and moving story and everybody in America ought to see this compelling work. It is certain to move people, especially those in the pedagogical field to tears. It deserves two big thumps up and more than just a passing glance.
