Upon completing two fulfilling careers and a total of 50 years working in the criminal justice field, Dr. John Paitakes is proud to announce the launch of his book, “50 Years Working In Criminal Justice”, in which he shares his knowledge, experiences, and successes. This book is a “must-read” for those pursuing a career, or simply having a vested interest, in criminal justice. It offers an abundance of valuable and practical tips on how to secure a career and succeed in the field. The book can also be helpful for anyone currently working in the industry who plans to make it a successful and long-term, fulfilling career.
Dr. Paitakes has worked in the criminal justice system in New Jersey for 50 years. He began his career at the Somerset County Courts in New Jersey as a Probation Officer. He worked his way up the administrative ladder rising to the position of Assistant Vicinage Chief Probation Officer during his 29 year tenure. During this time he also adjuncted as a Criminal Justice Professor at Raritan Valley Community College, Branchburg, NJ. In addition, he earned his Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling and his Ph.D. in Human Resource Development in Public Administration.
Upon retiring from the Somerset County Courts, Dr. Paitakes began teaching full-time in the Public Administration and Criminal Justice departments at Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ. He was also appointed by then Governor Christine Todd Whitman to the New Jersey State Parole Board as an alternate member. As a part-time position, Dr. Paitakes was able to serve on the Parole Board on his non-teaching days. After completing his 20 year career at Seton Hall University, he retired for the second time.
Dr. Paitakes was then appointed by current Governor Chris Christie for a second time to the New Jersey State Parole Board where he still serves as of this writing.
He is also presently an Adjunct Associate Professor at Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ in the Sociology and Criminal Justice department.
