The debate on the bill regarding the lifting of communications confidentiality, cyber security and the protection of citizens’ personal data started earlier on Thursday in the Parliament, government spokesman Yiannis Economou said during a press briefing.
He underlined that the aim of the bill is to strengthen the citizens’ rights against the threats linked with the technological development.
He said that the bill helps close the gaps and overcome dysfunctions in the operation of the state security agencies and establishes a clear framework in terms of the lifting of the confidentiality when deemed necessary and introduces bold measures that will become the guide for the rest of Europe.
Economou also spoke of the “household basket” initiative which entered the sixth week since its application saying that the results are positive.
Finally, he referred to the bill on the transparency in the press with the establishment of an electronic register of the press in printed or electronic form.
