“From the very first moment of the tragedy in Tempi, the government made a two-fold commitment: on the one hand, its active assistance in fully shedding light on the causes of the accident in order to assign due responsibilities and so the Greek people are told who is responsible, and, on the other hand, the rapid and a safe restart of the railways,” government spokesperson Yiannis Economou said during a press briefing on Thursday.
He added that the contracts for the technological upgrade are now underway and moving at a fast pace. The prime minister has been in contact with the French parent company Alstom and received guarantees for non-delays so that as of October the entire Athens-Thessaloniki network will have a telemanagement and signalling system that meets European standards, he said.
