The new liquefied natural gas (LNG) floating storage unit (FSU) at the Revithoussa island terminal is ready to start receiving the first supplies by the end of August, Environment & Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas said on Wednesday, during a visit to the LNG facilities west of Athens.

Skrekas was on Revithoussa to inspect the fourth LNG storage tank, which will expand Revithoussa’s previous capacity of 3 units and 225,000 cubic meters to 375,000 cubic meters of LNG.

The energy minister said that the four storage tanks will ensure natural gas supplies are adequate in case flows from abroad are interrupted. “A large percentage of natural gas is obviously used in producing electricity, thus we will be able to shore up Greece’s energy supply in the near future,” he said, adding that the new unit was installed “in record time”.
