In this insightful session, Dr. Halkitis will examine the historic health disparities and undue health burdens faced by Greek and other immigrant populations in the United States. He will discuss how public health must attend to the cultural, economic, political, and social-structural realities, including xenophobia, faced by immigrant populations to enhance their health outcomes.

Dr. Halkitis is an infectious disease epidemiologist, applied statistician, and public health psychologist. He conducts his work through research, teaching, advocacy, and activism. Currently, he serves as Dean, Hunterdon Professor of Public Health & Health Equity, and Distinguished Professor of Biostatistics & Epidemiology at the Rutgers School of Public Health. He is also the founder and Director of the Center for Health, Identity, Behavior & Prevention Studies (CHIBPS) and holds the status of Professor Emeritus at the College of Global Public Health at New York University. Dr. Halkitis is an elected fellow of The New York Academy of Medicine, The Society of Behavioral Medicine, The American Epidemiological Society, The European Academy of Translational Medicine, the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, and in four divisions of the American Psychological Association.
