Authorities on the island of Rhodes sent orders to evacuate another two villages – Malonas and Massari – on Monday afternoon, via the emergency number 112. The climate crisis and civil protection ministry announced the evacuation due to a major rekindling of the fire near the two villages, whose residents have been instructed to go toward the village Archangelos.

Meanwhile, the fire brigade forces and volunteers were battling to keep the flames out of the villages of Gennadi and Vati in southern Rhodes.

Several fire engines and volunteers were in the area, while firefighting planes were dropping water from above. The evacuation of both villages was ordered earlier, via the 112 emergency number, while the battle was still raging at the village of Asklipio on the island, where houses had been burnt.

The picture on the fronts of the fire was improved, following the superhuman efforts of everyone during the night to prevent the fire from passing through the villages. The contribution of aerial means was also significant.

According to sources from the Fire Department, there was a small rekindling in the area of Palaia Perithia, where the fire had originally started, while on all other fronts, firefighters, police, volunteers and residents were using whatever means they have to keep the flames away from the houses.

The British media were particularly interested in the development of the fire, as there are many properties owned by UK nationals in this area.
