Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias underlined that “revisionism has no place in the 21st century” in joint statements with the Foreign Minister of Malta, Ian Borg, after their meeting on Monday in Valletta.

Dendias said that he had the opportunity to brief his counterpart on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, where he noted that Greece faces, on an almost daily basis, an unprecedented and clearly unacceptable hostile rhetoric from Turkey.
He also underlined that Greece and Malta share a common maritime tradition and a common ‘home’ – the Mediterranean Sea.

Dendias said that during their meeting they discussed the situation in Libya and he reiterated his satisfaction over the fact that the European Union, Cyprus, the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Egypt and many other countries came out publicly and condemned the recent signing of a ‘memorandum’ between the Tripoli government and Turkey. “Greece and Malta’s common target is the promotion of stability in Libya and we should work in this direction within the context of the EU and other international frameworks,” he said.

He also said that they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Greece and Malta in the economy, tourism, renewable energy sources and logistics, as well as their collaboration in the EU and IMO where the two countries’ interest coincide.
Dendias congratulated Borg for Malta’s election to UN’s Security Council for the period 2023-2024.  “I see that our national interests converge, our principles are exactly the same,” he concluded.
